Mousa Camara, President of the Lower Guinea Fruit Growers Federation, said, “With the support of TİKA, which consists of tractors and all necessary items for farming, we’ll be able to use more than 3,000 decares of land for agriculture every year. In 2019, with the financial support of TiKA, we cleared 1,000 decares of land with construction machinery and opened it for pineapple farming. Since we did not have tractors, we’ve only been able to plant pineapples on 35 hectares of 100 hectares so far. We will quickly plow the remaining 65 hectares first to get the pineapple ready for planting. It is not possible to carry out large-scale agriculture without a tractor, the tractor prevents both losses of time and loss of yield.”
TiKA Guinea Coordinator Gökhan Keser said, “In 2019, we started a 3-year program to increase fruit production and diversity in Guinea. The content of the program consists of the cleaning of 100 hectares of land with construction equipment, the establishment of an irrigation system on the land, tractor grant, fruit drying and packaging facility, cold storage, and fruit juice production and packaging facility. When all these projects are completed, we will observe an increase in yield, employment, and export in the fruit sector.” he said.
